EpicXcel Girls Cricket Development Programme

Developing the next generation of female cricketers

EpicXcel is proud to offer a dedicated development programme for aspiring female cricketers aged 14–17. Designed to bridge the gap between high school and domestic-level cricket, this programme supports the growth of young athletes across Canterbury with expert coaching, targeted support, and a focus on wellbeing

Programme Overview

The EpicXcel Girls Development Programme is a fully funded initiative for female cricketers aged 14–17, designed to address the growing dropout of girls from the game during high school.

Many young players lack access to the same development pathways and coaching quality as their male peers. This programme bridges that gap, providing expert coaching, nutrition education, and mental skills training across three blocks during the year.

With no cost to players, it offers a vital opportunity to build skill, confidence, and connection—empowering young athletes to stay in the game and thrive at the next level.

How It Works

Programme Goals
  • Support the transition from school cricket to representative and domestic levels

  • Retain talented young players within the women’s game

  • Develop confident, skilled athletes ready to perform at higher levels

  • Build a strong peer network of female players across schools and clubs

  • Introduce athletes to the importance of nutrition and mental skills in sport

Sessions

10 sessions are run in three blocks throughout a season, over the course of three years.

Each 90 minute session is held on a Sunday 12:30–2:00pm at the Sir Richard Hadlee Sports Centre, by EpicXcel Trust, with support from The Willows Cricket Club.

What's Included

Each 90-minute session is designed to challenge and support player development.

The programme includes:

  • Batting, spin bowling, wicketkeeping and fielding coaching

  • Female-focused sports nutrition workshop
